Texas Swing Fiddling - 4 Weeks

Malia Furtado

Instrument(s): Fiddle, violin

Style(s)/Genres: bluegrass, classical, a little Texas Swing,

I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia attending festivals and fiddlers conventions with my family. I also started lessons with the Suzuki Method when I was 3 (I learned to count my bow exercises in Japanese!). Late night old time and bluegrass jams, hanging out with festival "family," and performing all over have been some of my favorite things in life since almost as long as I can remember. These days, when I'm not teaching, I travel with my sisters Lulu and Gina , and friend Drew Matulich performing as the Gina Furtado Project, and teach fiddle workshops at venues around the country.

Musical dream (or any personal fun fact): My musical dream is to be a real deal swing fiddler, to be tight with Casey Driessen and Darol Anger, and to go back in time to meet and jam with Vassar Clemens, Stuff Smith, Johnny Gimble, Bill Monroe, and Svend Asmussen.
